Service interval: Hanamaki to Kamaishi on the Kamaishi Line
A restored C58 239 locomotive, the SL Ginga operates between Hanamaki and Kamaishi on the Kamaishi Line. The passenger cars are a production in themselves, decorated to bring Kenji Miyazawa's "Night on the Galactic Railroad" to life. With the Kamaishi Line as its stage, the SL Ginga expresses the worldview, atmosphere and era of Miyazawa, while emanating the culture, natural beauty and scenery of the Tohoku area.
Step back into time to the early twentieth century when Kenji Miyazawa lived. With illumination reminiscent of gas lamps, stained glass windows and astrological partitions, enjoy the extraordinary at your leisure in the soft light and cozy compartment-like cars.
Galleries
The Kenji Miyazawa Galleries are created around three themes to bring Miyazawa's world to life from multiple perspectives. The exhibits include a variety of objects associated with the rail line and the Tohoku area that Miyazawa cherished and held dear.
Planetarium
In car number one is an exhibit dedicated to the moon, the planets and beyond. It is the first optical planetarium to ever be located in a train. The planetarium has a uniquely designed show for the enjoyment of passengers.
